Claus Nielsen on the Future of Heat Generation
Smart Grid Ireland in partnership with the Energy Institute, University College Dublin & NexSys hosted a visit by Claus Nielsen, from the Danish multi-utility company, DIN Forsyning.
Claus Nielsen, Senior Project Manager of DIN Forsyning gave a presentation on the future of heat generation on Thursday 29 September at NUI Dublin.
He shared his experiences as the senior project manager responsible for installing and commissioning a new district-heating installation with zero carbon emissions in the seaport municipality of Esbjerg as an alternative to the city’s current, coal-fired power plant.
The installation consisted of a turnkey heat network and heat pump solution for heat generation at the Port to enable the use of renewable power from nearby wind farms and seawater as a heat source for the generation of heating energy. With an overall heating capacity of 50 MW, the plant will supply around 100,000 local inhabitants with approximately 235,000 MWh of heat annually.
